Microneedling: The Treatment Your Skin Needs this Fall

Aesthetic medicine has had its share of revolutionary treatments that help patients keep their youthful glow and look radiant. BOTOX® came on the scene some 15 years ago, followed by dermal fillers and microdermabrasion a few years later. Each treatment is designed to improve skin health and appearance by treating specific issues like sun damage, aging skin, and acne scarring. The latest in this long line of cosmetic successes is Microneedling.

What is It?

Microneedling is a procedure that utilizes advanced technology to create controlled punctures in the neck and facial areas and force your skin into repairing cosmetic concerns. A fear of needles is of little concern, because the microneedles are so tiny their application is gentle and relatively painless. This treatment works well as a stand-alone procedure or as part of a skin care regimen designed to enhance facial beauty. Microneedling is great for scar reduction, treating wrinkles and fine lines, and skin rejuvenation from environmental factors like wind and sun.

What Does it Treat?

  • Pore size and skin texture
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surgical scarring
  • Mild to moderate acne scarring
  • Skin discoloration

Benefits

When your body repairs your skin naturally, it turbocharges its ability to produce elastin and collagen, resulting in a firm, plump skin presence. It also provides a smooth skin texture by reducing the visibility of stretch marks and scars to deliver an even skin tone. It can trigger new skin cell regeneration, and with a series of treatments, it will noticeably diminish forehead wrinkles, crows feet, and fine lines.

With increased collagen production, your body can naturally repair hyperpigmentation and reverse the sun damage attained this summer. It is also a great treatment for blotchy skin coloring resulting from overexposure to the sun, preparing you to look your best at your upcoming fall festivities.

How Does It Work?

The Microneedling device rolls across the skin using tiny needles with sterile tips to penetrate skin layers to depths up to two millimeters creating several controlled wounds. These tiny skin punctures open the pores temporarily and stimulate new collagen and elastin fiber production. The skin responds to these treatments with a more youthful, brighter skin appearance. Microneedling thickens and plumps your skin and reduces lines, wrinkles and scar visibility.

What You Can Expect

We start the procedure by applying an aesthetic cream to the treatment area for your comfort during the procedure. Next, we apply the special microneedling device by rolling it over the treatment area to initiate micro wounds to the skin. It is a custom treatment which addresses the specific needs of each patient and may result in temporary red patches, mild swelling, and redness. These effects usually last only a few hours but no more than a couple of days.

Number of Sessions Necessary

Your skin’s condition will determine the number of sessions you need to get the results you want. Generally, three to five treatments in four to six-week intervals are adequate with additional treatments every six to nine months for maintenance.
