While millions of women prepare for summer evenings by booking their hair appointment and picking out their little black dress, pursuing a better lip contour is fast becoming a beauty trend. At Denver Aesthetic Surgery, we are seeing more and more women seeking lip enhancement.
Perhaps it’s because celebrities with beautiful lip contours, like Taylor Swift and Angelina Jolie, are setting the standard for today’s lip appearance.
Whatever the reason, lip fillers are great for women of all ages who are eager to perfect their pout or add volume they may have lost.
Why Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are designed to improve lip volume and redefine lip contour. They are suitable for women who want to recapture their lip volume or who were born with thin lips. The main factors which affect lip appearance with age are:
- Sun Exposure
- Alcohol
- Smoking
How Lips Change Over Time
As we age, our lip appearance will change because of lifestyle, environmental and natural factors our bodies experience. A woman in her twenties may experience volume loss in her lower face and around her lips. They may see some sagging and the beginning of vertical lines around the mouth.
When she reaches forty, lip volume continues to decrease, and vertical lines become even more pronounced. Without anti-aging treatment, this trend will continue throughout her lifetime.
What Can Be Done?
First, scheduling a consultation with a reputable aesthetic clinic is a good place to start. Make sure you find a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and uses advanced technology and technique.
During the consultation, share your ultimate goals and how you want your lips to complement your facial appearance. Ask for recommendations and request images which will give you an idea of what to expect from the results.
If you agree with this health professional, schedule the procedure at your earliest convenience.
What is Involved?
Fillers are injectables which may bring some discomfort to the sensitive lip areas. We numb the treatment area with an anesthetic cream before treatment. After your lips are numb, our injector will inject the filler gel precisely in the lip area needing treatment.
What About Discomfort?
You may experience some discomfort after injections which we resolve with ice packs and topical creams. This discomfort is temporary. You may also experience mild swelling and bruises after the procedure, but these subside within a couple of days.
A Balanced Face
Having correctly proportionated lips is crucial to achieving optimal results. This balance requires:
- Upper lip balance, so there is no excessive protruding past the lower lip.
- Creating an even distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip.
- Achieving facial symmetry with equal proportions between the lower lip and chin.
- Defining a pouty, cupid’s bow which appears at the focal point of the upper lip.
- Ensuring the level of the lips and the level of the eyes are parallel.
